SIN ARISES FROM WITHIN THE HEART

 Newsletter  129                        February 27, 2009

Are not Jesus’ accusations of the Pharisees and scribes, who were being addressed and described as hypocrites, not also true of many of similar habits today? Their basic problem was that they knew the scriptures, but they placed more importance on their own traditions than the Word of God.? Their hearts were polluted, therefore their teachings were also corrupt. When the flock of the church follows a shepherd who does not teach the word. He is at fault because he does not teach the truth of the Word, and they are at fault because they base their beliefs and actions in response to what he has said and do not confirm them with the Word. Jesus’ final command would be, “teaching them to observe all things Whatsoever I have commanded you.” He was teaching them then what they must pass along to others, the flock.

6 “He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” Mark 7:6-7

This is exactly why there are so many denominations and cults today, all of who claim to be teaching the word of God. The Pharisees had their traditions; the cults also have their traditions which they emphasize more than the Bible.
Mark 7:14-23

14 Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:

15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

17And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

18 And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;

19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats

20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

The end result is sin, a few of which he enumerates in verses 21 and 22. These all arise in the heart where they are planned before they mature in action.
