THE WOMAN AT THE WELL

Newsletter 192 - May 8, 2010

John 4:27-42 (King James Version)

JESUS TALKED WITH EVEN A CASUAL MEETING.

27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her? (John 4:8)

28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? (John 4:17, Matthew 12:23, John 7:26, 31)

30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. (Matthew 23:7, Matthew 26:25, Matthew 26:49, Mark 9:5, Mark 11:21Mark 14:45, John 1:38, John 1:49, John 3:2, John 3:26, John 6:25, John 9:2, John 11:8)

MORE IMPORTANT THAN FOOD

32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? (Luke 6:13-16, John 1:40-49, John 2:2)

34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. (John 5:30, John 6:38, John 5:36, John 6:38, John 5:36, John 17:4, John 19:28, John 19:30)

THE TIME IS NOW

35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. (Matthew 9:37, Matthew 9:38, Luke 10:2)

36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. (Proverbs 11:18, 1 Corinthians 9:17, Romans 1:13, Matthew 19:29, John 3:36, John 4:14, John 5:24, Romans 2:7, Romans 6:23)

A DIVISION OF LABOR ACCORDING TO TALENTS

37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. (Job 31:8, Mark 6:15)

38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours. (John 4:5)

ALL NON-BELIEVERS ARE PROSPECTS

39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. (John 4:29)

40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

41 And many more believed because of his own word;

EXPECT RESPONSES

42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. (Matthew 1:21, Luke 2:11, John 1:29, Acts 5:31, Acts 13:23, 1 Timothy 4:10, 1 John 4:14)

FAMILY NEWS

These are exciting days in the Mills apartment! Our four daughters and their families have banded together to plan and host the celebration of our 60th wedding anniversary. They, and our extended family and guests are coming to Dallas from every direction. Kathy plans to arrive from Ohio this Saturday, and Ruth and Becky from South Africa also this week end. Donna already lives nearby. A reception is planned here at Evergreen in the media room on Friday the 21st starting at 2:00. The family is invited to Donna’s home for a get-together Saturday morning. The main event is to be Saturday afternoon in the choir room of the Valley View Christian Church.

Just to add to the excitement, the second book in Phyllis’ missionary novel series has just been published. It is titled “Turning Point” and we hope to have a box of copies in time for the reception so we can show them off. This book is available as a paper-back, a hard back, or in e-book format. The first volume was only available as a paper-back. Volume number three in the series is titled “The Paper Heart”. They have promised to print it free of charge if we send it soon enough, so we are now doing a final proof reading of its text.
